The Swiss motorway vignette is a mandatory annual pass for driving on Switzerland’s motorways and national roads. Unlike France or Italy, Switzerland has no toll booths. Instead, a single vignette costing CHF 40 (about £39) covers the whole motorway network for the year.

If you plan to drive on any Swiss motorway, even briefly, you need one before you enter the network.

Who needs a Swiss vignette?

The vignette is required for all vehicles under 3.5 tonnes using Swiss motorways or national roads, including:

Cars and vans
Motorcycles
Motorhomes and campervans under 3.5t
Trailers and caravans (these need their own separate vignette)

If you are towing a caravan or trailer, you need two vignettes: one for the car and one for the trailer.
